Meditation and chakras

Millions and millions of tiny vital life forces whirling through the body are concentrated into centers called chakras. Chakra means "wheel" in Sanskrit. They are called wheels because energies spin at these points rotating clockwise at a certain frequency. The activity resembles a galaxy of planets, each spinning on its axis.

The seven main chakras (plexus) that you will learn about are located in the spinal cord region while being reflected, and felt after Self-Realization, in various parts of our bodies. Each chakra is designed to supervise and maintain the perfect operation of the bodily systems under its control. An understanding of what each chakra attracts and what can disturb it, is important for our well-being. Every thought and action influences the sensitivity and performance of these centers. As a beginner, the initial task is to clear away the gross impurities which may take time but the results will be felt from the outset.

Energy Centres

The main seven Energy centers that exist within us are presented in the chart on the left. Please feel free to click on each one to learn more about them. Since our central nervous system becomes enlightened after Self-Realization, the state of chakras (plexus) can be felt within us. Each subtle center inside us has projections on our palm. The chart will help you to interpret your sensations.

For example, if you feel a tingling sensation on your left middle finger, then there is an imbalance in the left aspect of the Nabhi (3rd chakra or energy centre ). On the other hand, a cool and light sensation on the right thumb indicates a balanced state of the right aspect of Swadisthan (2nd chakra). This inner knowledge, coupled with understanding the qualities and governing principles of each center, helps us to realize all the obstacles inside of ourselves that bring our subtle system into imbalance.
